There's many benefits to typing faster. If you're a programmer like I am it means more lines of code. You can finish off daily tasks faster and take on more projects. You of course can include how fast you type on your resume.

My gameplan:
* Accuracy > speed
* Minimize looking down
* Look at the next words
* Consistent, daily practice. At least 20 minutes, ideally 1 hour.
* Growth mindset
* Established goal of 120 WPM average.

I started practicing on 9/3/20.

I started at about 45 WPM and at the moment average 68 WPM. Next month I'll consider practicing on the 10 fingers site.

I will update this thread about once a week. Please share your experience with learning how to type faster!

Yeah no worries! I have 2 laptops: chromebook and a Windows 10. I practice on my chromebook and unfortunately the speed doesn't really carry over to my Windows 10. The key is to stay consistent. I've been practicing at least 10 minutes per day for the past couple of weeks. It's kind of hard since I have to juggle school and I'm working on Zed Shaw's Learn More Python the Hard Way. Very happy to share my work in the coming weeks. I'm trying my hardest to help out small businesses so we'll see how I can tailor Learn More Python the Hard Way to a small business owner.

I'm now at 70.9 WPM. I hit 92.8 WPM as my top speed. I've lately been trying to improve my accuracy.

I Practiced Touch Typing For 30 Days

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8Qc_dzQTJ4

Kalle Hallden does some interesting coding projects and I watched this video because at the moment I'm hitting the wall in my typing project. This video shows his progress from 20 WPM to 70 WPM in 30 days.

I agree with him that this practice can be addicting. I think it's more productive to focus on coding instead of spending hours practicing typing.

Featured comment that I will follow up on:
For those who have been typing a lot on keybr.com I would like you all to also practice on 10fastfingers.com. Keybr is the best platform I came across for learning how to type but it doesn't punish you for pressing wrong keys, you don't get used to pressing backspace and correcting your mistake which is what you actually do under normal circumstances. 10 fast fingers simulates real typing typing experience and forces you to be more accurate. It would be kind of overwhelming for beginners so I suggest first learning on keybr and then applying what you learned on 10 fast fingers.

I'm now at 71.1 WPM. I hit 92.8 WPM as my top speed.

Your all time top speed beats 98.31% of all other people.

Your all time average speed beats 93.22% of all other people.

All my gains are marginal at this point but I'll be staying with this for several more months. I can't wait until I average 100 WPM.

I'll report back again next week. I did change a setting so my sessions are longer. Next week I'll add another layer of difficulty such as having to use a backspace for mistakes.

I adjusted the settings to make everything hard. So every mistake I make I will have to backspace, must do capitals, must do punctuations.

Next month I'll probably try 10 fingers. I still want to hit 100 WPM. Eyes on the prize.

I'm still going at this project. My speed and my accuracy has suffered big time. Still hanging in there until I hit 100 WPM.

The 100WPM is the good typing speed. What is your next target?
