Sam's post seems mostly introspective and positive while reflecting on the nature of his relationship to MMM.

I had no idea FS predated MMM.

I think one of the things I like most about FS is that Sam seems to have done well navigating early professional life, capitalized on success in the markets, and then found success on the web. It's compelling to me to follow someone that can repeat successes. I also think Sam's writing about HCOL areas, lifestyles, and the twists and turns of early retirement turned internet entrepreneurship are more relatable to me than what I've read from the MMM crowd.

Good ideas can be found many places, however, and timing matters quite a lot for folks getting exposed.

I do wish MMM, Mrs. MM, and family the best in dealing with something very difficult.
