Child Intelligence Over Time - Does it stay consistent?

Hello parents, I have been told over and over again but your child's personality stays consistent from birth until adulthood.

I'm wondering if the same could be said for intelligence? For example, if your child already knows his ABCs by 18 months and can differentiate between colors etc, would this be an indication of a higher level of intelligence that might stay consistent for the rest of his life? Or do you think intelligence can fluctuate and decline depending on the environment?

I guess this is a question of nature versus nurture and the percentages.

Thx,

Sam
