Title: Choosing an end date
Post by: PDXOregon on November 17, 2018, 07:38:07 AM
Sam and forum members,  if you could ideally engineer the date of a layoff, what time of year is the best to do it?  For example, I have heard the first week of January is best for a few reasons: you have 30 days of medical automatically paid for at the start of the month as part of your company's healthcare plan,  any retirement/401K matching is completed in full before the end of the previous calendar year, you have max'ed your taxable income for the previous year and are essentially starting at zero.  Do any other practical considerations come into play that have a big influence on timing?
