Title: REITS - Percentage
Post by: surpass on October 17, 2019, 07:47:28 AM
I have about 5% of my portfolio in REITS (VNQ).  For tax purposes I have them in my ROTH IRA.  What percentage of your portfolio do you have in REITS?  I'm looking to re-balance and not sure if I should add more taking it up to 10%.  Thoughts?

I'm at 10%, largely on the basis that I don't own any rental property.

So adding my primary (fully paid off) + the additional 10% REITS gets me to an overall 25% RE allocation.

Been a good year to own the VNQ, who knows what will happen in the future, though.

I think it depends on the rest of your portfolio and your goals. 5%-10% is fine. I'm at less than 3% in REITs, and have no interest in buying more. There's too many good growers on the market  ;D

I had about 10% in reit's but took it all out because I had purchased 3 rentals and didn't want too much allocated to real estate.
