Behind The Scenes Of The Millionaire Milestones Book

After three years of writing, rewriting, and refining, I’m thrilled to officially celebrate the launch of Millionaire Milestones: Simple Steps To Seven Figures! It became an instant USA Today national bestseller on May 14, debuting at #21 out of 150 on the list.

This book has been a true labor of love, not just for me, but for my family as well. It’s the product of countless early mornings, late nights, and weekends hunched over the keyboard, while also navigating the beautiful chaos of parenthood and everyday life.

Each chapter represents years of financial experience, both wins and mistakes, distilled into clear, actionable steps that anyone can take to build wealth over time. I wrote this book to help people from all walks of life hit their first $1 million in net worth, without needing a lucky break or a six-figure salary.

Whether you're just starting out in your career, navigating a midlife financial reset, or thinking about how to best guide your children toward financial independence, this book will serve as your practical, no-nonsense companion.

The Making Of Millionaire Milestones: A Conversation With My Wife & Editor

To mark the occasion, my wife and I recorded a special 30-minute podcast episode discussing the behind-the-scenes of creating Millionaire Milestones, what readers can expect, and some of the emotional ups and downs that came with the process.

We talk candidly about what it took to stay committed, how we managed the juggling act as parents and partners, and why we believe this book can make a meaningful difference in people’s lives. You can listen to it below:

If you’re curious about the deeper motivations behind writing the book, check out my earlier post here: Why I Wrote Millionaire Milestones: Easy Steps To Seven Figures

And if you’ve been able to build significant wealth from reading my work over the years, there’s no better way to pay it forward than by giving the gift of financial freedom through this book.

If you enjoy Millionaire Milestones, I’d be incredibly grateful if you could leave a review on Amazon or share it with someone who might benefit. Word of mouth is still the most powerful way to spread practical financial knowledge that can truly change lives.

I listened to your podcast with your wife. You both have nice voices. I appreciate how you speak openly about the intersection of money and life. It’s refreshing and engaging. I also thought about your comment that many people will surpass their goals with diligent effort. That’s another tension that you are candid about. Things might be even better, but they also might not, for a hundred future reasons. How do we try to act rationally when we simply don’t know?

I traveled to Taiwan and Taipei, specifically, and I found it to be the cleanest city I’ve ever been to. Like so clean that you have to carry your empty water bottle around because there are no garbage cans on every corner.

Sam,

This was a good book and made for excellent (easy) reading while I was on a flight.

See below for some feedback:

  1. Throughout the book, you keep using the term ‘net worth’, however you never define what this means. (I assume it’s simply assets minus liabilities) This should have been done in Milestone 1. The reader should know how to accurately estimate or quantify this number. Perhaps you could have encouraged reader to put it down an Excel file so he/she can visually see what his/her net worth actually is.
  2. In Milestone 1, is the table on page 14 based on pre-tax salary or post-tax salary? Knowing this would help tie back to the ‘net worth’ matter addressed in comment #1.
  3. In Milestone 3, you mention work and save like mad to get to $250,000. However, throughout this chapter, you only talk about getting to $250,000 by maxing out a Traditional 401k. This chapter should address ways to get to this number on other (non pre-tax retirement) accounts.
  4. In Milestone 5, on page 65, you mention having 5% of net worth in venture capital. However, you provide no mention of HOW to do that. Since many venture capital funds require being an accredited investor, many of your readers may not be able to do so.
  5. In Milestone 6, you mention accelerating wealth in real estate. You don’t provide much insight into HOW to do so (e.g., how to find the right realtor, what to look for in an investment property, what YOU look(ed) for when you bought your properties, etc.).
  6. In Milestone 6, on page 83, you show median sales price of homes. Is there a way to get this data for particular cities? This would have helped your readers across the country to determine rate of wealth growth in real estate relative to cities near them (or their family/friends).
  7. In Milestone 6, on page 89, you mention having one rental property for each member of the family. Where did this philosophy come from? It would have been good to know if this is a personal philosophy (and if so, why) OR a philosophy from someone else (a famous investor?). Many of your readers may struggle to get enough money to get 1 rental property for the family, let 1 property for each member of the family.
  8. In Milestone 7, on page 106, you mention if entrepreneurship isn’t for you. You mention getting into venture capital. However, you provide no mention of HOW to do that. Since many venture capital funds require being an accredited investor, many of your readers may not be able to do so.
  9. In Milestone 9, you talk about being where the money is. This Milestone should have been tied back to the real estate milestone (Milestone 6). It may have been better to have these 2 milestones back-to-back in the book and do more to tie these two milestones together.
  10. In Milestone 10, on page 133, you mention up-and-coming urban areas. It would have been nice if you listed some of these areas.

Read my copy in just a few days, as well! Couldn’t help but think throughout that the Samurai turned into Goldilocks.

You’re not just starting out on your money journey, and you’re not on the back nine either. You’re in that sweet spot where you’re still in the game but have experienced so much already.

The fact that you’re still evolving and figuring stuff out as life changes, like with having kids, really resonated with me. I’m in a similar boat and got a lot out of your present day perspective.

New website name… Financial Goldilocks??

Wonderful book and congrats!

Reading books is underrated nowadays with so many instant buzz videos from influencers who have no finance backgrounds.

But good for those of us who read and get deep into our finances!

Work like a wild person while young, save and invest about 15%+ of income, avoid overspending on depreciating expenses, buy less house than you can afford. Adjust as needed.

Hey Sam, the link to the private video fireside chat says “sales ended.” Is this the case?
